Midyear 2020: Our Favorite Hairstyles Right Now
We're now halfway through 2020! Sure, we've had a really crazy last few months so far, but you know what this means, right? It's the time for the newest roundup of our favorite hairstyles right now.
Regardless if you're just looking for something to spice up your looks or if you're simply tired of your current one, these new hairstyles will definitely give you a fresh new take on life.
Natural hair
What can we say, there's just something so sexy about natural hair. Maybe it's got something to do with the fact that most people haven't been able to visit the salon recently, but hey, we're happy that natural hair is getting a lot of love these days. Rather than the super made-up, super styled hair that we were used to seeing before the pandemic, some experts are saying we may start seeing natural hairdos a lot more soon.
Kinky curls
Natural hairstyles aren't just back, old-school kinky curls are back too. And to top it all off, curly bangs are also looking very hot right now. Curl specialist Lauren Moser, who also owns the salon Hair Lab Detroit, says that the first step to achieving curls that are perfect for your face is to simply work with your natural texture. For instance, if your hair has naturally tight S-curls, have your stylist do internal layers to give you the appearance of weightlessness and texture. If you have coily and kinky hair, you don't need this anymore since your hair already has the necessary volume to make the style work.
Short haircuts
Long hairstyles simply aren't very 2020, at least according to Harry Josh, a celebrity hairstylist who has already styled the likes of Hilary Swank, Miranda Kerr, and Gwyneth Paltrow. Josh notes that the short hair trend will probably stay for the duration of the year, as even famous models Karlie Kloss and Kaia Germer are already donning super chic short hairstyles.
90s-inspired chop
Once again, 2020 sees the revival of the short hairdos of the late 1990s, such as this 1990s-inspired chop. Although most people view short hair as rather high-maintenance, hairstylist and salon owner Dani Everson says that it doesn't always have to be this way. As a matter of fact, 90s hairstyles tend to be very low-maintenance, since this was back in the era where people didn't overuse styling products and tools yet. Everson has another helpful tip: if you want to make it the most low-maintenance hairstyle as possible, ask your hairstylist to simply "enhance" your natural texture.
70s Bangs
Hilary Duff's bangs are certainly giving us the 70s vibe, and in a very feel-good way. Nikki Lee, the co-founder of Nine Zero One salon, is the one to thank for this amazing throwback look. She explains that instead of doing full bangs, they instead decided to do 'curtain bangs' that "sweep to both sides" of the face. The result looks very similar to the fringe bangs that were popular a few decades ago. We'd definitely love it if it could make a full comeback this 2020. But be warned, according to stylists, this hairdo isn't very easy to maintain!
Bonus style: the Rachel
Jennifer Aniston's character in the classic sitcom Friends, Rachel Green, remains to be a very iconic character to this day. For good reason too. Her hairstyles may have switched more than a dozen times during the series' 10-year-run, but each one was very memorable. We simply can't help but add her styles to our list of favorite hairstyles right now. Adel Chabbi, hairstylist and owner of Adel Atelier, believes that it's time for Rachel's timeless styles to go back to life this spring 2020.
